I was a little curious to know if there really is a difference in personality between dog people and cat people, so naturally, I did a little ChatGPT research. Because apparently this is what retirement looks like. 😂
Here’s the general rundown:
Dog People
- More extroverted – generally more outgoing, energetic and enthusiastic.
- More agreeable – often described as trusting, cooperative and warm.
- More conscientious – tend to be more disciplined and routine-oriented.
- More traditional – often prefer structure, familiarity and conventional rules.
Cat People
- More open to experience – curious, imaginative, artistic and perhaps a little unconventional.
- More neurotic – supposedly more prone to stress, anxiety and worrying.
- More independent – more introverted, self-reliant and comfortable with solitude.
- More intellectual – some studies have found higher scores on certain measures of reasoning and intellect.
If any of this is true, then I think I may identify more as a cat person – especially the neurotic part. Haha!
I used to be a dog parent, but perhaps I’ve just been a closet cat lady all along.
Either way, I enjoy drawing these mysterious felines just as much as I enjoy drawing goofy pups. The conversations I have with them while drawing, however, are quite different. Dogs are a little more excitable and seem more than happy to tell me all about their shenanigans. Cats, on the other hand, are a little sassier and prefer to be the ones asking the questions.
They can also be pretty judgemental. Dogs generally want nothing more than your attention. Cats? They appear to want an explanation.
My latest art piece was of Theo (the white one) and Gabby (the black one), thanks to a friend and her phenomenal support of my passion.

I decided to draw them on Toned Tan paper because I thought the neutral background would make the blacks and whites of their fur pop a little more. It was only when I started colouring them that I realised just how much French Greys and Cream I was actually using.
Goes to show that what you see is NOT ALWAYS what you get. 😉
But the cutest part of this whole experience came afterwards, when my friend shared a photo of Theo and Gabby scrutinising the finished drawing after she placed it on the mantel.

I mean…judgemental, right?
Or perhaps they were simply checking whether I had captured their good side. Knowing cats, I suspect they were checking for accuracy.
