My Creative Journey

I’ve been doodling for as long as I can remember.

School notebooks? Doodles. Work meetings? Doodles. (Don’t worry… I was listening. Mostly.) A quiet afternoon with a pencil and a piece of paper? Definitely doodles.

Drawing has always been my happy place—a little escape from boredom, a way to slow down, and occasionally a reason to ignore the laundry.

Years later, frequent work travel introduced me to the wonderful world of adult coloring books. Evenings alone in hotel rooms became surprisingly enjoyable, and before long I found myself wondering, “What if I tried drawing these myself?”

That simple question changed everything.

As I approached semi-retirement, I decided to take my hobby a little more seriously. Out came the professional-grade colored pencils, quality paper, blending tools… and an entire room in the house that slowly transformed into my creative workspace.

I became my own art teacher.

I’d spend hours studying photographs of people, animals, and everyday objects, patiently teaching myself how to recreate them one colored pencil layer at a time. My husband, Eder, was the first to wonder where this “hidden talent” had been all these years. When I began sharing my drawings with family and friends, their encouragement gave me the confidence to keep going—even though I still insisted, “Oh, I just enjoy doing it.”

Then something unexpected happened.

People started asking if I could draw their pets.

One commission turned into another, and before I knew it, I was creating custom pet portraits for fellow animal lovers. Somewhere along the way, I discovered that capturing the personality behind those furry faces brought me just as much joy as drawing them.

When I returned to the corporate world, my pencils took a bit of a back seat. I still accepted commissions whenever time allowed, and drawing became my favourite way to unwind after long workdays. But I always knew it wasn’t the final chapter.

Now that I’ve left the corporate jungle behind for good, I’ve happily rearranged my studio (again!) and immersed myself in doing what I love most.

Starting this website is probably the bravest thing I’ve done as an artist.

If I’m being completely honest, I have absolutely no entrepreneurial superpowers. I didn’t inherit my mother’s remarkable business instincts, and as an introvert, “putting myself out there” has never come naturally. I also worried that turning a passion into a business might somehow take the joy out of it.

Thankfully, every portrait reminds me why I started drawing in the first place.

So here I am—sharing my artwork, telling the stories behind it, and opening the door for others to invite me into theirs.

Pet portraits hold a particularly special place in my heart. My first models were my two beloved dogs, who have since crossed the Rainbow Bridge. They were wonderfully patient (except when treats were involved) and unknowingly helped me discover the kind of artist I wanted to become.

A Little About Me

I’m based in Singapore but happily shuttle between Singapore and Manila several times a year.

I’m entirely self-taught, wonderfully self-critical (it’s an artist thing!), and fully convinced that talking to my drawing subjects helps them cooperate. Whether they agree is another story.
